PauseAI US is a nationwide grassroots movement to pause AI development.
Building AI is dangerous. 99% of species go extinct, and creating something more intelligent than humanity could be the last thing we do. AI has already engineered novel viruses, escaped containment to conduct cyberattacks, and solved new problems in mathematics. The AI companies plan to use AI to create recursively self-improving AI.
But we can stop it. At the height of the Cold War, President Reagan negotiated with the Soviet Union to reduce their nuclear stockpiles and prevent nuclear war. Now the U.S. must lead an international treaty to pause AI development. Learn how a pause would work.
Our approach is to make AI regulation a priority. PauseAI US volunteers meet with lawmakers, educate the public, and engage with media to raise the alarm about AI danger and how we can prevent it.
