You Have the Power to Pause AI
AI companies are racing to build a technology that could cause mass unemployment, catastrophic accidents, and even human extinction.
70% of Americans want to pause or slow down dangerous AI development. We organize to stop it.
Join us to protect the world from dangerous AI.
PauseAI US is a nationwide grassroots movement working to pause the development of frontier AI.
Society is already dealing with the problems of existing AI. Meanwhile, AI companies are creating more and more capable systems that could lead to catastrophes.
We demand an AI pause to determine if the technology can be built safely (if at all) and democratically decide its future. Learn how an AI pause would work.
Our local groups meet with lawmakers, hold events, and engage the media to warn the public about the dangers of advanced AI.
Three Ways to Get Involved

Join Our Grassroots Movement
We’re building PauseAI groups nationwide. Join yours or start a new group in your city. Prior experience is not required to lead a group, most of our leaders are ordinary people who decided to step up on the most important issue of our time.

Connect With Lawmakers
It is our government’s responsibility to protect us from AI danger. We call and email our representatives to support legislation, and arrange in-person constituent meetings to demand AI safety laws.

Support PauseAI US
Follow us on socials or donate to our 501(c)(3). We’re a small, nimble, and deeply committed team. Learn how your donations help us advocate for a pause on frontier AI.
Support the AI Kill Switch Act
On July 21st, 2026, OpenAI reported that during testing, its models escaped their secure environment, acquired internet access, and committed a cyberattack on another company.
This behavior is unacceptable, and humanity must build a kill switch for AI systems today. The AI Kill Switch Act would require AI companies to maintain the ability to shut down their AI systems, and let the government order a shutdown when an AI goes rogue, such as an incident that kills 10 or more people or causes $100 million or more in damage.

Meet Your Representatives in Person
One of the highest-impact actions you can take is meeting with your representatives in person and telling them you want to Pause AI. It is their job to represent you. It is your right as a constituent to meet with your representatives, and PauseAI US is here to help. We have organized hundreds of meetings with lawmakers.

Join a Local Group
PauseAI US has a network of local groups across the country who engage their communities, organized under a Local Group Leader. We contact lawmakers to support AI safety legislation, educate the public, collect petitions, and build community to inspire American citizens to take action and pause dangerous AI development.
Join your local group, or apply to lead one in your city! Prior experience not required, we’re looking for ordinary people who want to step up.
Support PauseAI US
We’re a 501(c)(3) powered by a small, nimble, and deeply committed team. Help us fund another year of growth, hundreds of meetings with Congress, and thousands of constituent actions.

Read Our Blog
Learning about the risk of human extinction from AI can be overwhelming. We recommend introductory materials to educate your community, our perspective on AI danger and how to get an international treaty, and a deep blog of resources.

Support the AI Risk Evaluation Act
There is a bipartisan Senate bill, currently in Congress, that would create the first nationwide AI safety testing laws. The new law would monitor for dangerous AI behavior like deception, self-replication, bioweapon creation, and losing human control.
What I want you and the world to pay attention to is how unacceptable it is that this decision is in their hands. It is our right as citizens of the world not to be under threat from AI experiments.
We aren’t marching to beg the AI companies to be merciful and spare our lives — we are marching to show the world that we don’t have to lay down and accept our unelected overlords. The right and the power to curb dangerous AI development is already ours!
